The cheapest ways to eat at a Michelin restaurant in Malta: starred lunch menus from €75, tasting menus under €100 and Michelin Guide picks where dinner stays under €50.

If you search for a cheap Michelin restaurant Malta has more options than you might expect. "Cheap" is relative at this level, but the gap between the most and least expensive way to eat in a MICHELIN-starred dining room on the island is large: from €75 for a two-course lunch to €205 for a full dinner tasting menu.
This guide compares the current menu prices of the starred restaurants on my lists and shows where you get MICHELIN-recommended cooking for the price of a normal dinner. All prices come from the restaurants' own published menus, checked in early October 2026. Menus at this level change with the seasons, so confirm the price when you book.
What counts as cheap at Michelin level
Nobody should expect a starred meal for the price of a pizza. In Malta, the dinner tasting menus at the starred restaurants on my lists cost between €95 and €205 per person before drinks. Against that background, anything under €100 for a complete starred menu is good value, and a meal under €50 at a restaurant the MICHELIN Guide recommends is a real bargain.
It also helps to know the difference between the two groups in this guide. A star is awarded for the cooking itself, and the starred restaurants here mostly serve set menus. Restaurants that are listed in the guide without a star are recommended for good cooking too, but they are usually more relaxed, and most let you order one or two dishes à la carte. That freedom is what keeps the bill low.
The cheapest Michelin-star meals in Malta
These are the lowest-priced ways into each starred restaurant, sorted by price.
De Mondion, Mdina: from €75
The best-value starred meal I found is the Signature Saturdays lunch at De Mondion, on top of the Xara Palace inside Mdina's walls. Two courses cost €75 and three courses €95, with 180-degree views across Malta included. The dinner tasting menu is €115.

What to order: Dinner Tasting Menu
A sample lunch offers three choices per course, for example cappelletti with oxtail and XO, line-caught sea bass à la plancha or local pork cheek, and a tart or artisanal cheese to finish. A cellar wine tour adds €30 to two courses. Lunch is only served on Saturdays, and the restaurant is otherwise open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
ION Harbour by Simon Rogan, Valletta: €95 at lunch
Malta's only two-star restaurant charges €205 for its dinner tasting menu, but the lunch tasting menu costs €95. Lunch is served on Fridays, so it takes some planning. A discretionary 10% service charge is added to the bill.

What to order: Full tasting menu
The cooking follows Simon Rogan's farm-to-table idea with Maltese produce. Dishes on the sample menus include a fritter of rabbit from Żurrieq, dry-aged red bream cooked over embers and chicken stuffed with mushrooms from Mġarr. The one optional extra is a celeriac and caviar course for €38.
Fernandõ Gastrotheque, Sliema: €95
The five-course tasting menu costs €95 and includes snacks and petits fours. The seven-course menu is €120.

What to order: 7-course tasting menu
Both menus share courses such as Ibérico jamón chawanmushi, gamberi rossi with kabocha squash and ravioli with Roscoff onion. On the five-course menu you choose between local fish and lamb from Ta' Żeppi Farm. Fernandõ opens for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
Le GV, Sliema: €95
Three courses cost €95 and four courses €105. Watch the supplements: the foie gras starter adds €10 and the Wagyu main €15.
The menu is short, with two or three choices per course, such as chilled Guzman potato with cured amberjack, heritage pork agnolotti with lobster XO and wild red snapper in brown butter. The restaurant sits on the 11th floor and is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.
Under Grain, Valletta: €100
Under Grain offers a three-course menu for €100 where you choose every dish yourself. The tasting menus start at €130.

What to order: Tortelloni of Braised Leeks
Current choices include mussels with passion fruit and gorgonzola dolce, tortelloni of braised leeks with aged Comté, and loin of Welsh lamb with white miso. It is open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
Rosamì and Noni: from €120
Two starred restaurants have no cheaper entry menu. Rosamì in St Julian's serves one Carte Blanche tasting menu for €120, and it can be adapted for dietary requirements. At Noni in Valletta the short tasting menu costs €125 and the full menu €145, and a vegetarian alternative is available on request. Both are worth it for an occasion, but they are not the budget choice.
Cheap Michelin restaurant Malta: price comparison
Here is the entry price per person at each starred restaurant on my lists, without drinks:
- De Mondion: €75 (Saturday lunch, two courses)
- ION Harbour: €95 (Friday lunch tasting menu)
- Fernandõ Gastrotheque: €95 (five courses)
- Le GV: €95 (three courses)
- Under Grain: €100 (three courses)
- Rosamì: €120 (tasting menu)
- Noni: €125 (short tasting menu)
Michelin Guide restaurants without a star: the real bargains
The MICHELIN Guide also recommends restaurants that hold no star. Here you can order à la carte, which makes a meal for €30 to €50 per person realistic.
Le Majoliche, St Julian's
A Sicilian trattoria where homemade pasta starts at €15 for the caserecce alla Norma and the fettuccine with clams costs €20. Starters such as the Sicilian caponata are €13.

What to order: Pork Soup Dumplings
Two more listed restaurants offer good-value tasting menus: Bahia charges €80 for its tasting menu and €70 for the plant-based version, and Caviar & Bull offers two tasting menus at €85.
What a full meal really costs
Menu prices only tell part of the story, so here are some realistic examples per person, without drinks unless stated:
- Tartarun: a plate of fish snacks (€10) and pappardelle with fish ragù (€21) come to €31.
- Zest: pork soup dumplings (€11.50) and the signature pad thai (€23) come to €34.50.
- Le Majoliche: Sicilian caponata (€13), fettuccine with clams (€20) and a cannolo (€5) come to €38.
- The Seafood Market Grill: tuna tartare (€19), fried calamari (€22) and fries (€4) come to €45.
- De Mondion: the two-course Saturday lunch with the cellar wine tour comes to €105.
- Fernandõ Gastrotheque: the five-course menu is €95, so €190 for two before drinks.
The pattern is clear: at the listed restaurants you can eat well for €30 to €45, while a starred menu starts at roughly double that.
Which cheap Michelin meal fits you
- Your first starred meal: De Mondion's Saturday lunch, for the lowest price and the best view.
- Two stars on a budget: the Friday lunch at ION Harbour.
- A starred dinner in Sliema: five courses at Fernandõ or three at Le GV, both €95.
- You want to choose your own dishes: the three-course menu at Under Grain.
- Seafood lovers: The Seafood Market Grill or Tartarun.
- Plant-based: Bahia's plant-based tasting menu for €70.
- A casual evening: pasta at Le Majoliche or small plates at Zest.
What you give up at the lower price
A cheaper menu does not mean a lesser kitchen, but it usually means fewer courses and less choice. The lunch menus at De Mondion and ION Harbour are shorter than the dinner menus, and they are only served on one day of the week, so tables go quickly. The three-course menus at Le GV and Under Grain leave out the surprise courses of the longer tasting menus.
What you still get is the same dining room, the same service and the same view, whether that is the Grand Harbour at ION Harbour or the whole island from the bastions of Mdina. For a first starred meal, the entry menu is the sensible choice.
How to keep the bill down
- Book lunch. De Mondion and ION Harbour are far cheaper at lunch than at dinner.
- Choose the shorter menu. Five courses at Fernandõ or three at Le GV save €10 to €25 per person.
- Check the supplements. Caviar, foie gras, Wagyu and cheese courses add €10 to €38 each.
- Be careful with wine pairings. A pairing can cost €65 to €90 per person, sometimes almost as much as the food.
- Ask about service charges. Some restaurants add one to the bill.
- Order à la carte at listed restaurants. One starter and one pasta at Le Majoliche or Tartarun costs far less than any tasting menu.
